A common lawn/field mushroom that shares its exact habitat with young, deadly Amanita "buttons" — the same volva check as store-bought button mushrooms applies here.

Young Death Cap / Destroying Angel "buttons" — toxic, do not confuse: Young, unopened Amanita species emerge in the exact same field/lawn habitat as Agaricus, and can look superficially similar before the Amanita's distinguishing features (ring, volva, gill color) become obvious. Agaricus gills mature to dark brown; Amanita gills stay white. Always check for a volva at the base before treating any field mushroom as safe.
