Button Mushroom — Positive ID

Common Agaricus bisporus — the same mushroom as cremini and portobello at earlier maturity, and one of the most commonly confused edibles with a genuinely deadly lookalike.

Destroying Angel / young Amanita species — toxic, do not confuse: Young, unopened Amanitas (including Destroying Angel) can look superficially like young button mushrooms before either species' distinguishing features (ring, volva at the base, gill color) are obvious. Amanita gills stay white, never turn pink/brown like a true button mushroom's do — check gill color and always check for a volva (a cup-like structure at the very base, sometimes underground) before treating any white/cream field mushroom as a button.
