The Quran

القرآن الكريم · 114 Surahs · 6,236 Verses · Revealed 610–632 CE

Revealed to the Prophet Muhammad over 23 years in two distinct contexts — Mecca and Medina. Organized by length, not chronology. The most widely recited text on earth. This guide is a non-denominational reference: what the text says, what it means structurally, historical context where needed. No theology pushed. No position taken.

Recommended translation: Abdel Haleem (Oxford). Also strong: Sahih International, M.A.S. Abdel Haleem.

Before You Start

The Quran is not organized chronologically. Recommended first-time reading path: Start with the Orientation section → Al-Fatiha → Early Meccan Surahs (at the back of a physical Quran, chapters 78–114) → work forward. Reading straight through from Surah 1 places you immediately in the longest, most legally dense material without the poetic spiritual foundation of the earlier revelations.
