Rose Hips — Traditional Use & Preparation
A genuinely good vitamin-C source with one real prep step the source pin skipped — straining out the seed hairs, literally the plant material historically used to make itching powder.
Cautions to Know
- Unstrained seed hairs — a genuine irritant, not just a texture issue: The fine hairs surrounding rose hip seeds are the same material historically used to make itching powder — they irritate the mouth, throat, and digestive tract if swallowed, and don't break down with cooking. Strain any rose hip tea or syrup through muslin or a jelly bag at least twice, or halve the hips and scoop out the seeds and hairs by hand before using the flesh.
